The wheelset shaft (4) is intended for an off-axis electric drive machine (2). It has two axially lateral edge regions (15, 16) and a center region (12) arranged between the edge regions (15, 16). Each edge region (15, 16) is at least partially designed substantially as a solid cylinder with a first outer peripheral surface (21) for mounting a wheel or a bearing. The middle region (12) is designed as an empty hollow cylinder with a second outer peripheral surface (11) for direct mounting of a rotor (5) of the axial electric drive machine (2). This reduces the production cost and the total weight while ensuring high mechanical stability.
