The invention relates to a device and a method for investigating the current flow distribution in solar cells and solar modules on fault locations. The object is to provide a device and a method which provides a statement about defects in a short time and also provides their exact position. According to the invention, current flow is intrinsic or externally excited in the interconnects and contacting or interconnecting elements. Around each interconnect and around the Kontaktierungs or Verschaltungselemente forms a magnetic field of certain strength. These magnetic fields are detected and detected by magnetic field detectors. Thus, the current flow distribution at each point of a solar cell and solar modules to be tested can be determined indirectly via the generated current and the forming magnetic field. The surface is scanned by magnetic field sensors. The magnetic field data determined by the magnetic field sensors are detected with exact position and buffered by means of microcomputers. From this magnetic field data an accurate image of the current flow distribution is generated and this can be displayed on conventional display media or output by means of suitable connected devices. The devices and the method are applicable to plate-shaped solar modules in mass production.
