The table is especially for use in a restaurant for several persons and has a table board (12) and a heater (14) in a recess (16) in the central region of the table board for heating or preparing food. The recess is formed in the table board so that is can be conveniently reached by a group of people and a container (20) is provided for insertion into the recess for accommodating a fondue liquid. There is a splash protector (40) for fondue liquid. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a fast-food restaurant.
