The device has arms (7) connected with a base part (6) and supporting a measuring tool (8). Each arm is provided with a swivel joint (1), where a position of the tool is guided by a measuring unit of the joints to a personal computer (4) for determining, collecting and storing measured values. A rotary encoder is assigned to the joints, where analog signals from the joints are converted to digital values, which are fed to the computer over a standard bus-protocol e.g. Ethernet for control automation technology, and a transmission line e.g. Ethernet.
