A method for assigning a partner for cooperative diversity in a mobile communication system is provided to assign the partner(the other terminal for configuring the cooperative diversity) efficiently by using channel information between terminals. Each terminal(Ti) existing within one cell calculates an average IC-SNR(Inter-user Channel Signal to Noise Ratio) with the other terminal, produces a partner candidate list Li,delta by each terminal, and transmits the partner candidate list to a destination(S10). The destination produces a pair partner candidate list Lp,1 in order of the average IC-SNR with respect to each terminal(S20). A terminal Tsigma having the smallest cardinality of the pair partner candidate list among terminals which are not assigned as a partner is selected, and a terminal Tp1 and the Tsigma as first candidate terminals of a pair partner candidate list Lp,sigma of the terminalsigma are assigned as a partner(S30). The Tp1 and the Tsigma assigned as the partner are removed from all pair partner candidate lists(S40). After that, the above second and third steps are repeated until partners are assigned for all terminals within the cell or all the pair partner candidate lists are empty(S50).
