THE SYNTHESIS OF HYDRATED KAOLINITE BY CRUDE KAOLIN

A synthesis method of hydrated kaolinite is provided to modify crude kaolin in a simple process and to obtain improved plasticity and improved ion exchange performance by employing intercalation method. A clay sample having proper particulates and kaolin crystalline structure is collected for a synthesis of hydrated kaolinite. Then, 200g of the clay sample is stirred in 800ml of water for 24 hours. The mixture is distributed to coarse and fine material in order of the precipitation during a period from the point of 30 seconds to the point of 30 minutes from the initial precipitation. A synthesis method of hydrated kaolinite comprises steps of: adding 5g of the prepared kaolin sample in beakers having 15, 20 and 25ml of DMSO, respectively with shaking of 180 revolutions for a minute. The shaked beakers are stood in ambient temperature for 24 hours. The residual DMSO is removed by decantation, and 30ml of MeOH is added for methanol washing in order to remove residual DMSO on the surface. 1g of NH4F and 20ml of DMSO are added to the obtained kaolin-DMSO complex, and the mixture is reacted for 2-3 hours for widening the gap of layers which is subjected to water washing for intercalation.
