Latex for coating paper, a method for producing the latex, and a paper-coating liquid containing the latex are provided to improve the printability, lower the gloss of white paper, and improve the printing gloss. Latex for coating paper has a core-shell structure. The core is formed through polymerization of monomer mixture, wherein the monomer mixture contains 5-35 wt% of ethylene-unsaturated acid based on 100 wt% of the core. A glass transition temperature of the shell is no higher than a normal temperature and lower than a glass transition temperature of the core. The shell contains no more than 10 wt% of ethylene-unsaturated acid based on 100 wt% of the shell. The shell has a smaller ethylene-unsaturated acid content than the core. Further, the latex for coating paper is styrene-butadien or styrene-acrylate latex.
