A data transmission method in an advanced UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network system is provided to transmit user data by using a logical tunnel so as to transmit the user data efficiently in an advanced UMTS network, thereby easily managing transmission of the user data as improving overall system performance. A tunnel ID(Identifier) is allocated(701~704). A tunnel management table is generated according to the tunnel ID(705). Downlink user data is received(706,707). A downlink protocol message corresponding to the downlink user data is generated by using the tunnel ID(708,709). The downlink protocol message is transmitted(710). The tunnel management table consists of the tunnel ID and base station address information for transmitting the user data. The tunnel management table further comprises state information indicative of a used state of a tunnel.
