A method for displaying intimacy in a portable terminal is provided to enable a user to easily confirm intimacy with a registered person by displaying the extent of intimacy through an item growing or degenerating according to intimacy. A user registers the information of a specific person in order to display the extent of intimacy on a user interface screen a processor provides through a display part(101). The user establishes intimacy articles and points for the intimacy articles in order to calculate the extent of intimacy with the registered person(103). If the processor displays previously stored intimacy items through the display part, the user selects a desired intimacy item(105). If a key event equivalent to intimacy setting completion is generated(107), the processor stores the settled intimacy setting information in a storage part(109). The processor confirms whether reception or transmission for the registered person occurs(111). If reception or transmission for the registered person occurs, the processor updates the intimacy information of the registered person by adding a point settled for an intimacy article corresponding to reception or transmission(113). Based on the updated intimacy information, the processor grows the selected intimacy item, and displays it according to the user's request or a preset display method(115,117).
