The invention relates to a bed, in particular an invalid bed and/or nursing bed, with a surface element (2) on which the patient lies, which is divided into sections (3, 4, 5) and which receives a mattress, a cushion element or the like, wherein adjacent sections (3, 4, 5) of the surface element (2) are arranged to be able to pivot relative to one another about a common swivel axis (6, 7). In order to create a bed in which the mutually pivotable sections of the surface element can be securely fixed in their relative position to one another and in which unwanted pivoting movements of individual sections can be avoided, a bed is proposed which is characterized by a locking mechanism by means of which two adjacent sections of the surface element can be blocked in terms of their relative pivotability to each other.
