The tooth rasp is preferably for a horse and is formed with a rod of metal matched in length and angle in relation to teeth which require to be rasped. The tool has a hand grip at one end and in the other end a rectangular rasp plate housing in which the rasp plate is fixed and where the rasp plate comprises a heavy retention plate for the rasp parts. The rasp plate is retained by magnetic force. The whole construction is designed with a view to simplifying the movement of the rasp plate, minimizing the height of the rasp head and reducing the weight of the rasp unit. The rasp plate is released through a hole in the base of the rasp plate unit, whereby the rasp plate can be pressed free with the aid of a tool matched to the physical dimensions of the hole. Finally, the rod on the tooth rasp is oval and the hole is such that it is eminently suitable for ensuring the correct angle for the rasp in the mouth of a horse.
