The present invention relates to the Sm29 membrane protein as well as an immunoenzymatic (diagnostic) test capable of detecting specific IgG antibodies against Sm29 protein present in the serum of individuals with schistosomiasis, use of Sm29 as a vaccine in the prevention of schistosomiasis and use of Sm29. in the treatment of allergic diseases.
