PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for determining and measuring asbestos mixed as an impurity in inorganic powder made of natural minerals such as mica, vermiculite, talc, sepiolite, attapulgite (palygorskite), chrysotile, lizardite, antigorite, and blucite as raw materials. PSOLUTION: The weight smoke density of amphibole or serpentine mixed as an impurity in the inorganic powder made of natural minerals as raw materials is measured by a powder X-ray diffraction method. The relation between the horizontal width and height of the amphibole or the serpentine is determined by a laser microscope. Its aspect ratio and volume are computed by a polarizing microscope.
