PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbon/phenolic resin composite material having high electrical conductivity and high mechanical strength. PSOLUTION: In performing addition condensation reaction by mixing a phenol and an aldehyde with a carbon powder in the presence of a reaction catalyst, the addition condensation reaction is performed in a reduced-pressure atmosphere. By performing the addition condensation reaction in the reduced-pressure atmosphere, it is possible to effect the addition condensation reaction between the phenol and the aldehyde while removing air from the surface of the carbon powder and to therefore form a carbon/phenolic resin composite material in which the carbon powder is entirely surface-coated with the phenolic resin.
