PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peptide having high biological and pharmacological activity as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of diseases relating to hypertension in the medical intervention involving dilation and remodeling of arterial blood vessel especially in pulmonary or systemic circulation. PSOLUTION: The peptide comprises at least one specific highly conservative amino acid residue sequence expected to play an important role in connection with pulmonary and arteriolar hypertension. Known naturally occurring peptides "vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)" and "pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP)" having these specific sequences are potent drugs successfully usable for the treatment of primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH), secondary pulmonary hypertension (SPH), and hypertension of the systemic circulation.
