PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find out a method having a higher hydrogen generation efficiency by improving a method for generating a hydrogen gas from an aqueous sulfuric acid solution by reducing hydrogen ions by using an oxide as a catalyst. PSOLUTION: A hydrogen gas is produced in a high efficiency by a radiation-induced catalytic method comprising mixing an alcoholic addition aqueous sulfuric acid solution with a strong-acid-resistant oxide or a precursor hydrate thereof in the form of a powder, a solid and/or a fiber and accelerating the reduction reaction of hydrogen ions with reducing species formed when the oxide or the hydrate absorbs the energy of a radiation and transforms it into chemical energy.
