PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically-functional thin-film element whose light-emission performance is improved by maximally suppressing loss when light generated inside the element is emitted to the outside, its manufacturing method, and an article using the optically-functional thin-film element.;SOLUTION: The optically-functional thin-film element (an organic EL element 1) is composed so that an optically-functional thin-film (a light-emitting layer 4) is included between a first electrode (a positive electrode 1) and a second electrode (a negative electrode 5). Each of refractive-index adjusting layers 6, 7, and 8, which are formed by executing refractive-index matching processing, is provided on at least one of a first interface between the first electrode (the positive electrode 1) and the optically-functional thin-film (the light-emitting layer 4), a second interface between the optically-functional thin-film (the light-emitting layer 4) and the second electrode (the negative electrode 5), and a third interface between the first electrode (the positive electrode 1) and air.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
