PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for optimizing filling of a cylinder of a two-stroke and large-sized diesel engine scavenging air in a longitudinal direction. PSOLUTION: The method is for filling the cylinder 2 with charging air 3, in the cylinder 2 of the two-stroke and large-sized diesel engine 1 scavenging the air in the longitudinal direction. Scavenging slots 5 for supplying the charging air 3 are disposed to an inlet area 4 of the cylinder 2, and an outlet valve 8 for discharging combustion gas 7 is disposed to a cylinder cover 6 of the cylinder 2. In the method, fresh air 9 available at ambient pressure PSB0/SBis sucked by an exhaust gas supercharger 10, and then is fed at predetermined charging pressure PSBL/SBas charging air to the cylinder 2 through the scavenging slots 5. Temperature sensors 12, 13 are provided for measuring an intake air temperature TSB0/SBof the charging air and/or measuring a charging air temperature TSBL/SBof the charging air 3.
