PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically save electricity consumption by recovering harmful mercury from a waste phosphor powder contained in a waste fluorescent tube at a low temperature in a short time. PSOLUTION: Mercury is recovered by promoting evaporation of mercury by stirring a phosphor powder in a rotary kiln or stirring the powder with a stirring apparatus and evaporating mercury at a temperature from 250C to 300C for 2 to 6 hours or evaporating mercury at a temperature from 550C to 650C for 1 to 2 hours and cooling the evaporated gas.
