PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical vortex laser beam oscillation method and an oscillation apparatus, which can oscillate a high-power optical vortex laser beam with high generation efficiency over a wide wavelength range and can directly oscillate from a resonator.;SOLUTION: A solid-state laser medium and two cylindrical lenses between which the solid-state laser medium is placed are disposed in an optical resonator having a reflecting mirror and an output coupler. The solid-state laser medium is photoexcited by excitation light from an excitation light source to oscillate a laser beam. In the laser beam oscillation method, a thermal lens is formed in the solid-state laser medium by the photoexcitation, and specific resonance conditions are satisfied for a high-order mode by means of the thermal lens, the two cylindrical lenses, and the optical resonator, and the resonance conditions are not satisfied for a low-order mode. Thus, this method selectively amplifies and oscillates a laser beam in the high-order mode while changing the phase of the laser beam in the high-order mode by 90 degrees.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
