PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for prognosing analyzing osteoporosis in early stages, to obtain a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis, and to provide a method for screening therapeutic agents for osteoporosis. PSOLUTION: The method for prognosing and analyzing osteoporosis comprises measuring expression amounts of Id4 gene in cells in bone marrow of healthy person and examinee and deciding the possibility of future crisis of osteoporosis, especially senile osteoporosis, based on the measured values. Therapeutic agent for osteoporosis, especially senile osteoporosis, comprises at least any one of Id4 gene and a protein encoded by the gene as an active ingredient. The method for screening a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis, especially senile osteoporosis comprises measuring the expression amounts of Id4 gene in cells, by culturing cells with forcedly expressed Id4 gene in the presence and in the absence of a test compound and selecting the test compound as a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis, based on the expression amounts.
