PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method by which pipecolic acid can stereoselectively be esterified in high yield and to make it possible to commercially provide an optically active pipecolic acid or a derivative thereof useful as a synthetic raw material or an intermediate for medicines.;SOLUTION: A substituent is introduced into the nitrogen site of pipecolic acid, to convert the pipecolic acid into an N-substituted pipecolic acid, which is then esterified in an organic solvent containing an alcohol by the use of a biocatalyst having stereoselectivity. Thereby, the optically active N-substituted pipecolic acid ester can be prepared in high yield and the optically active pipecolic acid or the derivative thereof useful as the synthetic raw material or the intermediate for the medicines can economically be produced and provided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
