An apparatus 10 for playing a game includes a plurality of items A1, A2, A3 each having a unique alpha-numeric identifier, a token T1, T2, T3 uniquely associated with each item A1, A2, A3 and in use, each token T1, T2, T3 being held by a person thus entitling the person to the unique identifier, at least one input device 15 by which persons may play the game by sending their unique identifiers A1, A2, A3 to a storage device 14, a database 20 containing all of the unique identifiers A21, A2, A3, a selection device 21 operable randomly to select from the database 20, a unique identifier A2, a comparitor device 24 for comparing the selected unique identifier A2 with the unique identifiers sent by the players to the storage device 14, a winner's list 26 for recording the randomly selected unique identifier from the database 20 where the randomly selected unique identifier from the database 20 is present in the storage device 14, and a losers' list 29 for recording the or each randomly selected unique identifier from the database 20 where the randomly selected unique identifier from the database 20 is not present in the storage device 14. The items A1, A2, A3 may be seats in a stadium, arena, cinema, theatre or the like. The tokens may be tickets and the unique identifiers may be seat numbers.
