Electrical wire insulator`s self-extinguishable properties characterizing method for motor vehicle, involves controlling insulator parameters e.g. flame appearance time, and combustion propagation velocity, duration and extinction distance
The method involves allowing an electrical conductor (8a) of an electrical cable or wire (8) to attain a determined high temperature for provoking combustion of a part of a self-extinguishable insulator (8b) in proximity to the conductor. Parameters such as time of appearance of a combustion flame, propagation velocity of the combustion, duration of the combustion and extinction distance of the combustion along the insulator, of local combustion of the insulator are controlled. Local protection characteristics e.g. insulator type, are optimized from the parameters based on a section of the wire or cable. An independent claim is also included for an electrical cable or wire insulator`s self-extinguishable properties characterizing apparatus comprising a metallic body.
