The method involves measuring propagation speed of low frequency acoustic ultrasonic waves inside a hygroscopic material, and measuring a moisture rate of the hygroscopic material. The hardness of the material is measured, and a value of density, modulus of elasticity and resistance to the rupture of deflection are calculated for the material based on the measured propagation speed of the waves, measured moisture rate and measured hardness. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the quality of a hygroscopic material.
