The step ladder/safety ladder includes an ergonomic work post (2), i.e. a platform and guard, and comprises two sliding sections with extending stabiliser legs (5) that must be deployed before ladder can be used. The two sliding sections of the ladder are locked together by a peg or key, and their release causes the stabiliser legs to be deployed by springs or pneumatic cylinders to form a quadrupedal support with the two feet of the ladder. The lower section of the ladder can also be equipped with a stabiliser (11) to compensate for a sloping surface.
