An input unit inputs the hierarchical structure data showing a hierarchical structure and operation instruction data, which is stored in data storing apparatus. A data updating apparatus updates the stored hierarchical structure data on the basis of hierarchical structure and operation instruction data. A receiving apparatus retrieves data which satisfies the conditions from the stored hierarchical structure data. The stored data has items recording an efficient date and a data change date. The receiving apparatus retrieves data on the basis of date. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) hierarchical structure data retrieving method; and (2) program for retrieving hierarchical structure data.
