Tube unblocking device, useful e.g. in the nuclear industry, comprises electric current impulse generator connected to elongated electrode in insulating sheath, forming impulses to disintegrate blockages
A tube unblocking device comprises an electric current impulse generator (10) and a combination (20) of a central, elongated, conductive electrode (2) and an insulating sheath (3). The unsheathed free end (5) of the electrode is inserted into the tube (7) and the other end (4) is electrically connected to the current impulse generator. An independent claim is included for a corresponding method for unblocking a tube (7) closed by a blockage (6), involving: (1) threading the electrode assembly into the tube until the free end of the electrode contacts the blockage; (2) introducing an electrically insulating liquid (8) into the tube until the free end is immersed in the liquid; and (3) generating one or more electrical impulses to cause one or more 'smacks' in the liquid in the free end region.
