The method involves obtaining records closer to a requested record or a record classification by evaluating the distance between two records. A partial distance of a row of a record is determined, and a stopping condition for the calculated partial distance is verified. The distance between the records is evaluated if the verification is positive and the row value is incremented by one step for evaluating the distance if the verification is not positive. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product downloaded from a communication network and recorded on a computer readable medium and having instructions for implementing a method for searching a record in a database (2) a device for searching a record in a database containing records defined by variables.
