The invention relates to a fire and explosion protection method in a high-bay warehouse in which chemical hazardous materials and, in particular, VbF substances of classes Al and B are stored. The inventive method involves: the reduction of the volume percent of oxygen in the atmosphere inside the warehouse by carrying out continuous inertization with an inert gas, particularly nitrogen, to a value ranging from 12.9 to 13.4 % by volume; monitoring the volume percent of oxygen in the atmosphere with the aid of oxygen detectors; ensuring a homogeneous distribution of the oxygen-reduced atmosphere in the warehouse; monitoring the volume percent of solvents in the atmosphere with the aid of solvent detectors; circulating the atmosphere of the warehouse by means of at least one circulating system; preventing, to the greatest possible extent, the use of ignition sources; removing gaseous substances from the atmosphere of the warehouse, and; preventing the concentration of dusts by installing filters in the at least one circulating system. The invention also relates to a corresponding high-bay warehouse.
