A unit for generating combustible gases from pieces of wood comprises a reactor with an oxidation zone (10), in which air or oxygen jets are mounted. These have at least two gas outlets (60, 61), one of which is at the end of the jet and the other in its side. An independent claim is included for an electricity generating system comprising the reactor, an IC engine and a generator.
