The device has a light source (6) e.g. high pressure discharge lamp, and ultraviolet filter (10) and infrared filter (12) to transmit part of the radiations from the source to an image display system (2) in a wavelength range within a visible range. The filters diffuse reflection of the other part of the radiations in another wavelength range outside the visible range. The filters have a curved surface for distributing reflected energy.
