Visibility range measuring device for vehicle, has calculating unit to calculate visibility range of vehicle based on image characteristic of target road edge object in respective images and distance between image recorded points on road
The device has an image recording unit e.g. optical camera, to record images of a road at two image recording points along the road during driving of a vehicle along the road, where one of the images contains a target road edge object. An image evaluating unit (33) evaluates image characteristic of the target road edge object in the respective images. A visibility range calculating unit (34) calculates a visibility range of the vehicle based on the image characteristic of the target road edge object in the respective images and the distance between the image recorded points on the road.
