The method involves determining a yaw rate or a correlated size by a determining device (1), and determining vehicle speed by a determining device (2). A roll angle of a motor vehicle is determined using the yaw rate or the correlated size and specific vehicle roll spring rigidity. A centripetal force is computed from the yaw rate or the correlated size. The yaw rate measurement is calibrated in the standstill position of the vehicle and when driving the vehicle. The vehicle is assumed as a mass (m) with specific height (h). An independent claim is also included for a sensor for environment detection in a motor vehicle.
