In a process to manufacture the tread on an automotive pneumatic tire, the radial inner layer is made of a first rubber grade and the second outer tread layer is made of a second rubber grade. The first rubber grade has higher electrical conductivity than the second outer rubber grade. The first layer has radial projections (34) that project thru the second tread layer at regular intervals to make contact with the road surface.
