The method involves equipping humans with a respiratory gas source, which supplies a cavity around the buried humans with respirator gas in case of burying of the humans in an avalanche. The respirator gas from the respirator gas source is guided into an upper part, head and/or face area of humans, where the buried humans inhale the supplied respirator gas over the cavity. The respirator gas is supplied to the cavity in dependence of release variables depending upon carbon-di-oxide consumption. An independent claim is also included for a rescue device for avalanche-buried humans.
