The operating procedure for a system with a reformer for production of hydrogen from a hydrocarbon mixture by partial oxidation and with a processing unit obtaining the reformats in the reformer, comprises separating a partial-quantity of the reformats (6) after the withdrawal from the reformer (1) and before entering into the processing unit (7), and feeding back the partial-quantity of the reformats into the inlet area of the reformer after cooling. The cooling of the fed back reformats takes place in a heat exchanger with an air stream (3) and/or fuel stream (4) supplied to the reformer.
