The method involves detecting a print image by a detect unit (26), where the image is generated by a printer (18). Image data are generated corresponding to the detected print image, and are archived in an archive system (32). Indexing information such as address information of a receiver, is generated for indexing the image data by print data. The print data is utilized for generating the print image. The indexing information and a part of the print data are stored together with the image data in the archive system. An independent claim is also included for a device for archiving print images.
