The method involves moving encoders (2, 3, 4) together with an object e.g. vehicle, and measuring surface and/or space positions of the encoders, which are movable together with the object e.g. vehicle. The measured surface and/or space positions of encoder are corrected using a calculus of observations of a geometric boundary condition limited by the encoder relative to one another, in a direction of an observation.
