An arrangement to emit and receive terahertz radiation comprises photoconductive antennae (1a,1b) with a gap (5) and a pulsed laser (2) working in mode locked operation through a photoconductive antenna acting as a saturatable absorber mirror (3). The absorber mirror comprises a multi-quantum well structure having a strong absorption in the region of 30-80% of the laser wavelength and the pulsed laser is a fiber laser.
