The method involves using an eddy current technique on silicon-particle-free areas of a cylinder bearing surface (1) of a crank case (2) for testing the bearing surface (1). A rotor (3) is provided with an induction coil (6) adjacent to the cylinder bearing surface for eddy current generation. The cylinder bearing surface is made of a hypereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy. A differential measurement and an absolute measurement of an electrical conductivity are carried out with the eddy current technique. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for non-destructive testing of a cylinder bearing surface of a crank case of a reciprocating internal combustion engine.
