The method involves using virtual random input value (4) generated by considering basic conditions of a device, where the input value is derived from parameters (6-12) that depend on an operating condition of the device. The input value is collected in a data block (14), and the input value is merged with a source value (16) in the data block. A variance co-efficient is formed by the data block, and a random number (2) is provided. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for generating a random number using a virtual random input value (2) a computer program with a program code unit for implementing a random number generating method (3) a computer program product with a program code unit for storing of computer readable data.
