Sample conditioning arrangement for in-line, infra red analysis of a flowing fluid has a heater, such as a concentric double tube device (8) which carries the sample in its central bore, and in the annulus has a counter-current flow of air at a substantially higher temperature than the sample set point value. The air flowrate is controlled from the sample fluid outlet temperature. The tempered fluid flows through an optical cell (4). The hot air supply may be provided from a heated block through which compressed air is passed.
