Monitoring (M1) infusions in patients (1) with the aid of a marker substance (3) added to the solution, or a drug whose presence and/or amount can be measured, so that the presence and/or amount of the infused solution is determined from the amount of (3) or drug measured in the patient. Independent claims are included for: (1) monitoring (M2) infusions in patients (1) with the aid of a change in a physical property of the infusion solution which is measured in the patient; (2) a device for use in M1, comprising a metering unit (2) for the infusion solution, a marker substance (3) or drug added to the solution, and a sensor (5) on the patient's body responding specifically to a property of (3) or the drug, so that, depending on the signal from (5), an alarm is given if the signal does not show the presence and/or amount of (3) or the drug, especially after comparison with standard values; and (3) a device for use in M2, comprising a metering unit (2) for the solution, a signal transmitter (4) causing a change in a physical property of the solution and a sensor (5) on the patient's body responding to the physical property, so that an alarm is given if the signal does not show the presence of the physical property, especially after comparison with standard values.
