The method involves heating a region of a layer of ceramic powder that is applied on an object and to be impinged and sintered. The layer is influenced in such a manner that particles in particulates of the powder achieve activation/simulation energy in addition to oscillation energy. The region is irradiated with laser beam with a wavelength of less than 2.5 micrometer for sintering the region. The temperature and/or the simulation/activation state of the layer are a measure for the penetration of the beam for sintering. An independent claim is also included for a device for selective laser sintering of a layer of ceramic powder applied on an object.
