Static and dynamic testing of bonding within layered composite, lined, vapor-deposited, vulcanized or laminated materials, applies pneumatic or hydraulic pressures to interface between layers
The composite testpiece (1), comprising one or more layers (2, 3) of bonded material, is connected to a pressurized gas or liquid line (7), at the contact plane (4) between layers. Local variations in the layers are observed and corresponding pressures are measured. The pressurized medium passes through one layer (2), and acts upon the contact surface (5) of the second material (3) bonded to the first (2). In static testing, pressure rises gradually, the material being observed for delamination or bursting. In dynamic testing, cyclic variations are counted until fatigue is observed. An independent claim is included for corresponding equipment.
