The method involves coupling or decoupling an internal combustion engine and an electrical engine with a drive transmission of a vehicle. A charge state of an energy storage or energy flow is controlled or regulated depending on a cost function for energy consumption or emission output. An actual rotation moment of the internal combustion engine and an actual rotational moment of the electrical engine are determined by an application of a band of energy cost vectors. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling or regulating a state of charge of an energy storage or energy flow into a vehicle.
