Impact severity determining method for e.g. airbag of motor vehicle, involves determining actual impact severity using impact severity detector under consideration of two impact severities based on predetermined criterion
The method involves determining a crash type based on signals of sensors (4-7), and assigning two impact severities, which correspond to the crash type, to two time periods. The signals are analyzed with respect to a change of crash type from one time period up to another time period. One of the impact severities is maintained in absence of change of crash type or is adjusted to a changed crash type during occurrence of change of crash type. Actual impact severity is determined by an impact severity detector under consideration of the two impact severities based on a predetermined criterion. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining an impact severity for a safety system of a motor vehicle.
