The method involves producing a texture free three dimensional geometric model of a two dimensional projection image for determining characteristics of an object e.g. cube. A camera is arranged for taking up the two dimensional projection image in a detection phase. The surfaces of the object are uneven and significant, and visible characteristics in the projection image are extracted.
