The medium has a material (3) e.g. synthetic fiber, to clean components of banknotes processing machines, when the medium is transported together with banknotes through the machines. Information e.g. plaintext (4b) and barcode (4c), are used while processing the banknotes in the machines. An area of the material is oriented transverse to a transport direction, in which the medium is transported through the machines. The material is pasted or laminated or imprinted or sprayed on the medium. An independent claim is also included for a method of cleaning a banknotes processing machine.
